Five on Friday

Friday, July 31, 2015

Happy Friday, ladies! I sure am happy to see this week come to a close. Let's jump right into my FoF! P.s. in case you missed my post from yesterday… my husband is now booking appointments [just kidding]!

[O N E]
Halfway finished with my psych rotation. Praise. I won't sugarcoat things... it's miserable! This field just isn't for me. I love doing physical exams on patients... listening to their heart, lungs, doing abdominal and neurologic exams, etc. I haven't done a single physical exam. It's a lot of talking and medication refills. Not my cup of tea.

We spent last weekend at the beach and I never had a chance to re-cap our weekend. So here is a picture dump of our relaxing weekend at the beach. I cannot believe summer is coming to an end, time is FLYING people!

A girl from my hometown started a side business selling adorable necklaces. Follow her on instagram @rileybeads. They are only $25 and you can choose any color tassel or bead.

One of my best friends had her baby last weekend!! Her due date wasn't for another 4 weeks but after some blood pressure issues, she ended up in an emergency C-section. My nerves were torn to pieces! But! Baby Liam is here and they are happy and healthy! She lives 4 hours away [ughhhh] but I am hoping to make the trip in just a few weeks.

Hubs and I have been semi-stressing over the dreaded M word lately: money. It seems like bills and random payments keep popping up constantly! This week he noticed something was wrong with his Tahoe, something was leaking. Luckily we have family in town so he borrowed a car and took his to the shop. When he went to pick it back up, an "anonymous person" had already paid the bill. And this was not a cheap bill you guys. Talk about an incredible blessing. Just another reminder that God hears us and is constantly taking care of our needs!

Hairfessionals

Thursday, July 30, 2015

Today I'm going to fill y'all in on my biggest secret… my husband does my hair. No joke. Every sock bun I've ever worn, I can thank my husband for. Rewind to 2 years ago when I attempted my first sock bun by myself and failed miserably. My first instinct was to call in my then fiancĂ© for an extra pair of hands. Next thing I knew I had the most bomb sock bun ever! Fast forward 2 years later and he is the sock bun pro.

How many of y'all can say your significant other did your hair for your rehearsal dinner? [insert hand raised emoji]

It's actually quite hilarious when people watch our 2 man team tackle the sock bun. We are like a well-oiled machine at this point. Team work makes the dream work, right? Gosh I love my man!

90th birthday party

Wednesday, July 29, 2015

As I mentioned in a post last week, we recently celebrated my Granddad's 90th birthday! What a milestone! He is the most healthy and active 90 year old I know, riding his bike a couple miles every single day. Recently he has begun to suffer from mild dementia which has been hard for him, as he has always been so sharp. Even though he doesn't necessarily remember the names of all his family and friends, he knew he was being celebrated, and that's all that mattered.

My husband is slightly obsessed with our niece

Weekending: surprise birthday party

Monday, July 27, 2015

I never got a chance to recap last weekend, when we went to Raleigh for my SIL's 30th birthday. I had been planning a surprise party for her for MONTHS so I was super anxious to get there!

We headed to Raleigh after work Friday night and went straight to dinner. We chose pizza and I am sooo glad we did. Our pizzas were SO yummy, my mouth is watering just thinking about it! We got a s'mores pizza for dessert which looked better than it tasted, but it wasn't bad. After dinner it was back to my SIL's to watch a movie and head to bed.

Saturday morning we were up bright and early to take advantage of our day. We had been wanting to try Defy Gravity for a while and finally got around to it. It's a huge open room with trampolines everywhere. Y'all, it was a WORKOUT. I mean, I was dripping sweat 5 minutes after we got there. It was such a blast!

We grabbed lunch and did some shopping, then headed back to shower and get ready. We told my SIL we were going to have drinks and appetizers with our cousins in town later that afternoon. Side note: when we told her we wanted to do this, she replied "I honestly don't really want to", which resulted in me having a heart attack and freaking out, thinking we weren't going to be able to get her to her own surprise party. After some threatening convincing, we headed to the party and she was SO SURPRISED. It was the best!!

My SIL, cousins, and niece… love my family!

My niece is OBSESSED with my SIL… it melts my heart!

After the party, we headed downtown to the Pit for dinner. We sat outside and had delicious drinks while we waited to be sat. The drinks and company were A+, the food was B-. My sides were yummy but my ribs were less than average. A little dry and tough, which was disappointing.

It was such a great weekend and I am super thankful for my SIL. I couldn't have hand-picked a better one! Happy 30th, Jill!

Four [wants] on Friday

Friday, July 24, 2015

Today I finish my first week of my psych/behavioral med rotation. It has been… well… torturous interesting. For instance, my very first patient on Monday had just been released from the psych ward at the hospital for chasing his neighbor with a machete. Blessss.

Anyways, let's pretend for a second that I'm not a broke grad student/newlywed. These are the  top four looks I am dying to add to my closet this Fall:

[O N E]
Pea coat/trench coat. I am dyyyying for a black coat. I have a couple in other colors but black is a must! I am also loving the camel color this Fall.

[T W O]
Boyfriend jeans. I don't own a pair but that shall soon change! I love them with booties, dressed up or down.

[T H R E E]
Brown booties. I have gray and black, but really want brown. And let's be honest, I wouldn't mind if all 4 pair of these magically appeared in my closet.

Ponchos. Give me a llllll the ponchos! Throw it on over a plain t-shirt with jeans and boots and you are set.

Danielle Davis Style

Thursday, July 23, 2015

Today I'm talking about something that many of us ladies need, but few of us have ever had: someone to help organize your closet, plan your outfits, and make the most out of your wardrobe. Problem solved! My beautiful best friend of 20+ years recently launched her own company doing exactly that. She travels all over NC helping ladies organize their closets, throw out what the are "hoarding", show them staple pieces that can be used in different ways, and she even does personal shopping!

Danielle graduated from ECU with a degree in fashion merchandising and now lives in Raleigh, NC with her hubs and their adorable boxer pup, Mindi. We were bridesmaids in each other's weddings which were 5 months apart. I text her pictures of my outfits all.the.time. for emergent fashion advice. She is my fashionable friend, and I am so thankful for that!

Overwhelmed with your closet and need help organizing? Engaged and needing help finding outfits for wedding showers, rehearsal dinner, bridesmaids' luncheon, etc? Need help planning outfits and packing for a long trip to Europe? Don't have time to shop but needing a dress for the weekend? Danielle can do all of these things and more! She is currently in the process of launching her website, but for now shoot her an email at danielledavisstyle@gmail.com to talk about how she can help you! Also, follow her on instagram at @danielledavisstyle. I promise you won't regret it!
