FoF: worst blogger ever

Friday, July 29, 2016

[O N E]
You guys, I am officially the worst.blogger.ever. Life has been so busy and the first thing to go is always this blog. I refuse to cut back on time with my husband, family, and friends to make time for blogging. And I also refuse to lose sleep to find time to blog. I truly hope to get back into regular blogging soon because there are so many exciting things to blog about! This will definitely happen once summer is over and I'm not traveling every weekend.

Speaking of traveling, we have been going to the beach every single weekend. My happy place! It does get tiring living out of a suitcase and driving every Friday and Sunday. We are home this weekend because I'm on call for work and I am looking forward to being super lazy, avoiding this awful heat, and doing some projects around the house.

Last weekend our best friend couple traveled from western NC all the way to the coast to spend the weekend. They were in our wedding and we were in theirs so it is always SUCH a good time when we get together! We had the best time and I was so sad to see them go :(

I am usually too scared to wear white on white or cream on white but it has been a popular trend this summer so I decided to bite the bullet. I paired this cream linen top with my white skinnies, added a Twine & Twig (duh.. outfit staple) and I loved the final look.

I've recently read these three books and they were all great! Perfect beach reads. I love finding new book suggestions so figured I'd pass my latest good reads on!

Does anyone else watch The Real Housewives of Orange County? I have been addicted to this show for years! This season it follows Meghan Edmonds' IVF journey. It's so awesome watching her go through it on national television… brings so much awareness to infertility! And another fun fact… Heather Dubrow and her husband Terry (Dr. Dubrow from the show Botched) also did IVF!

A good, old fashioned date night

Thursday, July 7, 2016

Sometimes you just need an old fashioned date night, am I right?! Last weekend we picked up my dad's convertible, got dressed up, and drove 45 minutes to my cousin's well-known restaurant, On The Square. Before checking in for our dinner reservations we stopped at the new brewery that my cousin also just opened which is right down the road from On The Square. It was such a neat place full of delicious and unique beer, puzzles, corn hole, and ping pong. With no tv's on the walls, it forces you to share a drink and engage in conversation with your date, which I just loved.

After enjoying a flight of beer we headed to dinner. I had the most delicious strawberry mojito, almost too pretty to drink! I believe that the presentation of a drink totally makes or breaks it. Throw some garnish + fresh fruit on my drink and make me feel like I'm getting my money's worth!! We shared calamari for an appetizer and it was the best I've ever had. I had shrimp & grits for my meal and hubs had lab chops. We were both equally pleased!

And no date night is complete without a stop by Krispy Kreme for hot doughnuts.

4th of July

Wednesday, July 6, 2016

Happy Wednesday!! I had yesterday and Monday off so this is a super short week for me (praise!). It was sooo hard coming home from the beach yesterday. I wanted to stay forever!

We had the best long weekend at our happy place. With a big family and 2 toddlers running around, it was equal parts relaxing and stressful. But the good type of stressful where the toddlers are climbing onto everything and there isn't one second of peace and quiet. We left the babies home one night and the grown ups went out to a yummy dinner. Besides that we stayed home and hardly changed out of our bathing suits the entire weekend. And I was an awful blogger and only took a few pictures.

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July! So very thankful for the men and women and their families who sacrifice so much so that we have the freedom to do what we want, when we want. I am hoping to start getting back into the swing of things soon with this poor blog… life has been SO crazy lately!

This week was rough. You know when you just have some weeks where everything seems to go wrong? Work was so stressful and life just seemed to beat me down this week. There isn't much death in orthopedics, which is one of the reasons why I went into this field. I'm too emotional to deal with super sick patients. So when death happens, it hits hard. Makes you step back and realize how precious life really is.

I got this dress at a boutique in my hometown a year or so ago and honestly forgot about it. I pulled it out of my closet and paired it with my Twine & Twig [duh] and loved how this look came together. I am all about dresses that cover my shoulders/arms these days.

Last night my dad rented out our local movie theatre for his referring dentists and their staff to see Finding Dory and of course we invited ourselves tagged along. It was SO cute! All your mommas with little ones, go see it ASAP!

I've mentioned my precious neighbor Georgia who lost her battle to leukemia multiple times and how her mom is making/selling necklaces to honor her. I have been rocking my Anchor Beads lately and I don't plan on stopping! The best quality necklaces AND 10% of the proceeds are donated to childhood cancer research… you can't beat that.

We have made it to the beach almost every weekend so far this summer. Every Sunday when we are headed home I am plotting ways to move here permanently. My happy place for sure!

FoF: vet bills and new purchases

Friday, June 17, 2016

[O N E]
I mentioned recently that our doggy has to have ACL surgery later this summer. Well last week we noticed she was drooling from one side of her mouth so straight to Google I go. Terrible decision. Doctor Google told me it could be liver failure, kidney damage, dental problems, etc. So back to the vet we went and found out that one of Bella's molars was cracked from chewing her bones. So on Wednesday she was put to sleep to have her tooth pulled and the rest of her teeth cleaned. Broke my doggy momma heart. And we are officially ready for the universe to give us [and our wallets] a break.

[T W O]
I had so many questions about this off-the-shoulder top I wore at the beach recently. You can find it here on Chicwish. Once again, credit goes to my girl Lindsey Thorne because I totally copied her!

[T H R E E]
I came home one day this week to find this on my doorstep. Champs + the sweetest note from two of my best friends? Made me so happy!

My sister got the pictures back from the photographer from my nephew's first birthday party and I just love these pictures! Will definitely be printing them!

I have been on the hunt for a pair of distressed white jeans but I refuse to spend an arm and a leg on jeans with holes in them. I found these at Old Navy and for $32 I am thrilled. The perfect amount of stretch and they fit almost as good as my high dollar jeans!

FoF: new vacuum and books

Friday, June 3, 2016

[O N E]
Our vacuum bit the dust [no pun intended] a few weeks ago so I have been on the hunt for a new one. Luckily my sister lives right beside me so I have been stealing borrowing theirs. I have wanted a Dyson forever but just could not justify spending that much on a vacuum. I think Brittany was reading my mind when her post went live. Maybe I am easily persuaded or she's just a really good saleswoman but this Dyson was purchased 5 minutes later. And the fact that it was on sale… score! It arrived last week and I am in loooove. You seriously would have thought it was Christmas morning at the Davis household. We took turns using it and squealed with delight at how easy it was to push and how great the suction is. We are officially an old married couple.

[T W O]
Last week I started a new devotional all about "waiting" because let's be real, that's what my life has consisted of for the past year. I am not exactly a patient person, just ask my husband, so our season of waiting has been especially hard for me. I find myself wishing time away which is terrible. This study is helping me understand why God puts seasons of waiting in our lives and how I can grow in my faith during this season.

[T H R E E]
I recently got this dress from Anthropologie after seeing my girl Lindsey's post and I am obsessed! I have already worn it multiple times and I know it will be on repeat all summer and into fall. It is flattering and the perfect dress for baby showers, brunch, date nights, etc.

[F O U R]
If you follow me on Instagram (@mrsordavis) then you have already heard, but our sweet German short-haired pointer Bella tore her ACL and needs surgery. My doggy momma heart has been SO sad lately because she hasn't been able to run and swim at the beach which is her absolute favorite thing in the world. Have any doggy mommas experienced the TPLO surgery for ACL reconstruction? How was it? We are putting it off until August because we have so much going on right now and I am just dreading it :(

[F I V E]
Now that I'm no longer in school I have so much more time to read for pleasure. It is one of my very favorite pastimes! I have been flying through books like I did before PA school. I saw that the movie "Me Before You" is coming out soon and I always like to read the books before seeing the movies. So far I am halfway through and I'm loving it which has me super excited about seeing the movie.

Memorial Day weekend

Tuesday, May 31, 2016

Friday after work we headed east and I could not WAIT to get to the beach, sit on the porch, and have a drink. We were prepared for this weekend to be a complete washout due to tropical storm Bonnie. Thankfully, the weathermen were 100% wrong and the entire weekend was beautiful! We enjoyed so much beach time, it was darn good for my soul.

We got paddle boards for Christmas from my mom so we decided to take them into the sound on Sunday. The ocean was too rough so we loaded them into the car and drove to the sound side. We paddled for 2 hours up and down the waterfront, stopping on docks to take a break and drink a cold beer. Yep, we had a cooler packed and strapped to the front of a board. Priorities people!

We are so very thankful for the men and women that sacrifice their lives for our freedom. They are the reason that we are able to enjoy beach weekends in our amazing country. It was a great Memorial Day indeed!
