We are back from a long Labor Day weekend in Key West with my whole family. My dad recently got a vacation home there so it was our first of many trips! The house is beautiful and I know it will hold so many memories for our family in the future. I am heading back in 3 weeks so I will do a home tour if anyone is interested!
Thursday night we made the 2 hour drive west and stayed in a hotel right beside the airport. Our flight was at 7am so I refused to wake Vivi up at 3:30am to leave for the airport. It worked out perfectly and I'm so glad we did that! It definitely made our travel much more do-able.
Friday we were up bright and early to catch our flight. The rest of my family got there Thursday so they greeted us when we arrived at lunch time. My niece and nephew were so excited to see Vivian even though they see her every single day. It was so cute! We set up the pack-n-play, put Vivi down for a nap, grabbed a drink and headed straight to the pool.
Friday night we grilled out at the house because we were exhausted from traveling and waking up so early. It was so nice hanging out in our bathing suits until late in the evening and not having to rush to go anywhere.
Saturday morning we were all up bright and early so we rode our bikes to Blue Heaven for breakfast. This restaurant is a Key West landmark and an absolute must next time you're there!
The rest of the day we spent hanging out in the pool and riding around on the new golf cart which is SO much fun. I put Vivi in the baby bjorn and she absolutely loved riding in the golf cart and exploring the island! Key West is tiny so having a golf cart and bikes is so convenient. Plus, you can't park a car anywhere so bikes are the way to go.
Saturday night we went to Mallory Square for sunset which is also a must in Key West. There are all sorts of shows and people playing music and singing. You can get a drink and watch the sun set from the best spot on the island.
After sunset we put the kids to bed and a babysitter stayed with them while the adults went to Duval Street for a few hours. We went to a drag show which is absolutely hilarious and so entertaining. Had a few drinks, got some late night pizza, and headed home way past my bedtime.
Sunday morning it was overcast and raining off and on so we rode bikes to Island Dogs bar for mimosas and bloody marys. We rode around and did some exploring until the sun came out then it was pool time for the afternoon.
Vivi absolutely loves the pool so it made it enjoyable and so fun to watch her splash around. She is a water baby for sure!
Sunday night we had dinner at Conch Republic which is perfect for kids because it's outdoors and right on the water so it doesn't matter if they're noisy. And you can take them on the pier and feed the fish for entertainment. Tip: when in Key West, you have to try a piece of key lime pie at every restaurant you go to!
Our vacations aren't what they used to be... there is a lot less reading, sleeping and relaxing but making memories as a new family of 3 is priceless.
What an awesome vacation, and your Dad's house is gorgeous! And how cute is Vivi in her little bathing suits?! Key West is on my bucket list for sure.

ReplyDeleteLooks like a perfect Labor Day weekend. Hope you all survived the hurricane okay and that no one in your family was down there. (One of my friends showed pictures of the damage around her house. Miraculously, her home was untouched but the two on either side were decimated.)
