The end of a chapter

Thursday, November 16, 2017

Today is my last day at my current job... my first "big girl" job as a physician assistant. It is truly bittersweet. I have been here for 2 years and we are like one big family. I am comfortable here but feel like I have "plateaued" in terms of learning. I absolutely love learning and expanding my knowledge of medicine and treating patients which is why I am super excited for the next step in my career.

Back story: I wasn't even looking for a new job but one fell in my lap and it was too good to pass up. It is amazing how God opens doors for you and His plan is always best! I will now be working at a super high-esteemed orthopedic practice just 5 minutes from my house (as opposed to my 30 minute commute now). I will be part of a group consisting of eight surgeons and six physician assistants. A much bigger practice than I am at now. The best part is I spent 4 years here before PA school so I already know everyone! It feels like going home and I am so excited.

My new job is at a Level I trauma center and it is the biggest orthopedic practice in the eastern half of our state so my days will be much more exciting (and busy!). The surgeons and PA's I will be working with are brilliant and some of the best in the country. I cannot wait to learn from them and expand my orthopedic knowledge. And getting to assist in the operating room with incredibly talented surgeons is the icing on the cake.

So, while I am so sad to say goodbye to my coworkers and work family today, I am pumped to be stepping out of my comfort zone and into the next chapter. Change is scary but necessary for growth!

Christmas gifts for ladies

Wednesday, November 15, 2017

Happy Wednesday! Today is all about Christmas gifts for the women in your life... your mom, best friend, mother-in-law, sister, or heck even yourself [send this gift guide to your significant other ;)]. I feel like women are the easiest to shop for but often you see the same gifts over and over. I tried to gather some of my very favorite gifts I've ever received and I can't wait to steal some ideas from you guys!

Christmas gifts for ladies/moms/MIL's/girlfriends

These J.Crew pajamas have been on my wish list for a while. I would never splurge on pjs for myself so this would be a perfect gift for your mom or even yourself! These pajamas are much prettier than the ratty t-shirts and pajama pants I usually wear.

My husband just gave me this personalized gold bar necklace yesterday and I'm in love. It is simple and I plan on never taking it off. Perfect for layering with other necklaces. You can personalize it with your child's name, anniversary date, or any other special memory.

I am obsessed with this Tory Burch leather clutch. Not cheap but TB products last for years and years and are absolutely worth the money. You get what you pay for, right? I am swooning over the red for Christmas parties.

For Mother's Day my husband totally blew me away with a watercolor painting of Vivi and I. He ordered it here. This is such a thoughtful, unique gift that anyone would love... your mom, MIL, or any other lady in your life.

I have had this exact Hobo wallet for 7 years and it is still in great condition. I love how it keeps everything organized and has multiple pockets for chapstick, lipstick, bobby pins, etc. It can also double as a clutch if you don't want to carry a purse.

You can never go wrong with perfume. This Jo Malone perfume is my very favorite and I find myself "saving" it for special events because I want it to last forever!

I am always on the hunt for new healthy recipes. This cook book is perfect for the lady in your life that loves to cook.

I have these Kendra Scott earrings in multiple colors and they are basically the only earrings I wear. Not too heavy and super cute with any outfit.

How precious is this gold cuff bracelet? I say this to Viv and Garrett all the time and it would be such a sweet reminder of them on my wrist.

Every lady needs personalized stationary. I think hand written notes are a lost art but I still make an effort to send snail mail frequently. A letter on monogrammed stationary presents so well.

I use the heck out of my S'Well water bottle and I'm dying for another color. It keeps water cold forever and I love that you can throw it in your bag and not have to worry about spills.

I just got these leopard print flats for my birthday. They have been on my wish list forever! I can't wait to wear them all.the.time.

This camera instantly prints polaroid pictures, how awesome is that? Such a fun gadget to have.

I have these exact tennis shoes and love them. I think every woman needs a pair of black Nikes. Bonus: they are 25% off right now!

Y'all already know how much I love champagne. These plastic, shatter-proof stemless champagne glasses are a must for all champagne lovers. I was sold at "you can throw them in the dishwasher"!

My best friend's wedding weekend

Tuesday, November 14, 2017

Guess what today is? My birthday! I plan on hanging with my baby girl all day and my mom is cooking my favorite meal tonight so it should be a great day! So very thankful for another year!

++

This past weekend was my best friend's wedding. We kicked off wedding weekend with a bridesmaid's luncheon on Friday. Everything was beautiful and it was so nice to relax and enjoy time with all the girls before things got crazy.

We headed to the church Friday afternoon for the rehearsal and then to the rehearsal dinner. The rehearsal dinner was so sweet. There were so many toasts from friends and family. Also, I went with the purple dress and got so many compliments!

Saturday we were up bright and early for hair and makeup at the bride's parent's house. We sipped mimosas and got pampered, it was so much fun. The reception was in her parent's backyard under a huge tent. The weather was absolutely gorgeous [but cold!] on Saturday but however it rained so much last week that the ground was soaked and so muddy. Her parents had parts of the yard replaced with new sod and had huge blowers to try to dry the yard out but it was still pure mud. By the end of the night we were all covered and the bride's dress was ruined. But no one cared because it was the best night ever! The dance floor was packed all night and it was one of the best nights ever!

Also, every wedding needs a photo booth. We had way too much fun and the photo booth guy hated us by the end of the night.

I'm still recovering from a weekend full of way too much fun. It's a good thing best friends don't get married every weekend.

I mentioned on my Insta story a few weeks ago that I finally met Emily in real life. We had lunch and it felt like we had been best friends for years! I could had chatted with her all day long. She is the sweetest mama of two precious boys [arranged marriage please?!]. That is the absolute best part about blogging. I have made so many friendships and I feel closer to some of my "blogging friends" than I do with friends I've known IRL for years.

My amazing mama's birthday was on Tuesday and we sent her gorgeous tulips through The Bouqs Company. I have used this company multiple times (and received flowers through this company) and have always been super impressed. Not sponsored, just love their product. Use this code to get $15 off your first bouquet delivery!

I am on the hunt for a new camera. I have a huge Nikon that I just have not been able to figure out how to use. The pictures on auto are not great and I don't have time to learn how to shoot consistently in manual. I want easy to use that takes super clear pictures. Any recs?

Last but not least, it is finally my best friend's wedding weekend! We have been friends since we were 1 year old, crazy! Yesterday we all got manis and pedis, today we have the bridesmaid's luncheon, rehearsal, and rehearsal dinner and tomorrow is wedding day! I am so excited to celebrate Molly all weekend. She is the kindest person I know and deserves all the happiness in the world!

Dress vote!

Thursday, November 9, 2017

Something happened yesterday that rarely happens… I like all the dresses I ordered online. I realized earlier this week that I had nothing to wear to my best friend's rehearsal dinner and I'd rather watch paint dry than take a baby shopping sooo Nordstrom to the rescue! I ordered 3 because I was sure I'd hate them all but to my surprise I love them all and I'm having a hard time choosing which to wear tomorrow night. So, cast your vote below!

I know which one I'm leaning towards but I want your input! It's going to be hard to send any of these back!

Christmas gift guide for kids

Wednesday, November 8, 2017

Can you believe Christmas is just 47 days away? My husband and I are obsessed with Christmas and I'm holding myself back from decorating our house this early. Vivi ins't getting much this year since she's too young to know what's going on but I have been keeping a list of things I think she would enjoy as they pop in my head. I always struggle with unique gifts so I am super excited to see what everyone comes up with! I plan on stealing some ideas!

First up is gifts for the babies. These are some of the things I'm getting Vivi. Toys change so much once they are walking so I also have a gift guide for older kids. What are your kids getting from Santa this year?!

Christmas gifts for babies and toddlers

I originally saw this Pewi Y Bike on April's blog a few months ago. She talked about it helping her daughter learn to walk and I made a mental note to get this for Vivi for Christmas. It has been ordered and I can't wait for her to try it in a few months! It is perfect for almost walkers or new walkers.

Every Christmas my parents gave me a Christmas ornament and when I got married I got to take them all to decorate my own tree. It was such a special tradition that I am going to continue with my children. This ornament is beautiful and perfect for baby's first Christmas.

This ball pit looks so fun! I know my Vivi would just love it. I'm still contemplating this because we don't have a play room and it would take up so much room in our living room. When we move next year I'm absolutely getting her one of these!

I was gifted a precious little nativity set when I was pregnant and I can't wait to display it in Vivi's room for Christmas. Growing up, my mom collected nativity sets and I have started to do the same. I love the idea of giving Vivi a new one each year. I am loving this one and that she can play with it and it's not just for looks.

You can never have too many Christmas books! I like this onethis one, and this one.

I used to dream about the day when my future children would wear Hunter rain boots. I mean is there anything cuter?? These rain boots are a splurge but would be such a cute Christmas present!

This push toy is perfect for learning how to walk and new walkers. Vivi will be getting this!

I used to absolutely love playing in tents and teepees when I was little. This teepee is so cute and would make play time and picnics so much more fun.

My child is a total water baby. I knew Santa would be getting her a water table ever since I saw how much she loved splashing around in the pool this past summer. The perfect toy for spring and summer days.

I've seen lots of people talk about these sensory beads. They look like such a fun and different play activity for the littles.

We love bath time in our home and Vivi gets so excited when she gets new bath toys. This adorable octopus bath toy will be under the tree for her this year! Some other bath toys I'm loving are these bath crayonsthese foam counting bath animals and these water coloring tablets to give bath time a fun twist.

Christmas gifts for kids

This play kitchen is adorable. I cannot wait to get Vivian one of these when she's a little older! This play food would be perfect to go with it.

This tunnel tent could keep any kid entertained forever. So cute and fun!

Last weekend for my niece's birthday I quickly learned that Shopkins are all the rage these days. Every little girl would be thrilled to get a Shoppies doll.

This play tool set is the perfect gift for all the little boys in your life. I'm pretty sure this is what I will be gifting my nephew.

Before we got pregnant I dreamed of the day where we had a monogrammed kids Anywhere Chair in our living room. They are so darn cute and so practical!

This tabletop easel is perfect if your little one loves crafts and coloring. I don't have an artistic bone in my body but I hope Vivi does!

The Jungle JumpaRoo is the neatest toy I've seen in a while. A mix between a trampoline and a jungle gym.

My niece and nephew have these scooters and they love them. They are so easy to use (my nephew is 2) and perfect for outside play time.

A tablet, because sometimes you need peace and quiet and screen time isn't going to kill them.

What kid doesn't love sidewalk chalk?!

Garrett tried to get Vivi a basketball goal this year. Can you tell he wants her to play sports?? I think 10 months would be a little young for this but it will definitely be in our future!

Weekending: Bachelorette party!

Monday, November 6, 2017

This weekend I traveled 5 hours west to Asheville, NC for my best friend's bachelorette party and it was the best time. We have been friends since we were about 1 year old. Aren't those friendships just priceless?

We rented a huge house in the mountains because there were 14 of us. A lot of the girls got there Thursday night but we left Friday morning bright and early and met them in time for lunch. We had lunch and delicious cocktails at Chestnut. I am always so impressed by this restaurant. Everything is super fresh and unique.

After lunch we walked around downtown Asheville and stopped in a few breweries. Wicked Weed Brewery was one of my favorites. They had so many good beers on tap and it was such a fun atmosphere.

Friday night we did the Pubcycle around downtown Asheville and it was a BLAST! Basically it's a trolley that you pedal while drinking and jamming out to music. How could that not be fun?! I'm sure our driver was ready to be done with us after 2 hours of 90's rap and 14 girls and lots of cocktails.

Saturday we started the day with a tour and beer tasting at Sierra Nevada Brewery. I highly recommend this if you're in the area. It was such a fun experience. It is a MASSIVE brewery and absolutely gorgeous. We learned the history of the brewery, got to hold and learn about hops, tasted about 10 different beers, and just had a really good time.

Saturday night we kept the party at our cabin with a lingerie shower, cocktails, hot tub, games and lots of girl time. This weekend was so good for my soul. My group of friends have been together since elementary school and spending time with them recharges my batteries. Only 4 more days until we are all together again for wedding weekend! I'm beyond excited!
