2016- Our Year in Review

Friday, December 30, 2016

2016 was a whirlwind... filled with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. If I had to sum it up into one phrase I would call 2016 "the year of the medical bills". Seriously so many bills (for us and for vet bills) it's ridiculous! 2016 left me pregnant with our miracle baby girl, which was obviously the highlight of our year, but I am ready to turn the page on 2016. I am praying that 2017 is our best year yet, filled with health and love and our baby girl! Here are some 2016 highlights:

We spent our 2nd anni/New Years in Antigua (recap part 1 and part 2)

graduated from Physician Assistant school and passed my board exam!

I started my first big girl job as an orthopedic Physician Assistant and I am so happy to say I still love my job.

We went back to Chapel Hill, to our alma mater UNC, for a basketball game and reunion with my husband's former baseball teammates. Always a good time!

We made our infertility journey public. It had been on my heart to open up and share our struggle in hopes that it would help at least one other person. It has connected me with SO many other women who helped me through and that I am now helping get through.

My whole family went to Disney World! It was an absolute blast and so much fun watching my niece take it all in! (recap here)

April-- This month was alllll about shots. And not the tequila kind. We started my shots for the IVF process... operation baby Davis officially began! April was filled with 3+ shots a day and more doctor's appointments than I care to count.

May-- Had egg retrieval surgery and they retrieved 44 eggs!!! And we ended up with 28 healthy embryos, praise God! The recovery was rough but so glad to have this behind me.

Celebrated my nephew's 1st birthday. I love him so!

Spent Memorial Day weekend [and almost every weekend of the entire summer] at the beach.

June 24th-- Had our embryo transfer. A HUGE day for us!

June 29th-- Found out I was PREGNANT! Went to the doctor on July 3rd and it was confirmed with a blood test.

August-- Announced our pregnancy! (recap)

September-- Our furry baby had ACL surgery. Whew, remember when I said "the year of medical bills"? It was a rough 12 week recovery and heartbreaking to see her in pain.

October-- Found out we are having a baby GIRL and I was in complete shock!!! My husband was dying for a girl but I was convinced baby blue was in our future. I couldn't stop crying! (recap and video here)

Spent my birthday weekend in Charlotte with my best friend. Went to a Panthers game and got to go on the field which was super fun!

Spent Thanksgiving at my in-laws with both of our families.

Spent a girls weekend at the lake with my very best friends!

Had our Christmas card pictures taken.

Spent the weekend at The Umstead with my mom and sisters.

Attended lots of fun Christmas parties with my favorite date!

Christmas morning with my family, there's nothing better!

2016, you were full of ups and downs. Every year that we are healthy and happy is a good year, but I am praying that 2017 is our best year yet!

Our Third Anniversary

December 28th, 2013
I couldn't have hand picked a better day. It was 65 degrees, a rarity for winter in NC. I had waited 4 and a half years for this day, since the first day we met. I had butterflies while my girlfriends and I got pampered and sipped mimosas. Then we had our First Look and everything was right in the world. We spent alone time together, and I couldn't believe I was about to be his wife! The ceremony was so special and "us." I wanted it to reflect our faith and be centered around God.

After the ceremony we took the trolly to our reception where the party started! We sipped Manhattans and champagne and danced the night away. The drinks flowed as we celebrated becoming husband and wife. It was truly the best day of my life.

Garrett,
Three years ago I vowed to love you for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health. In year three we faced some very low lows, we battled infertility and overcame it together. Through it all I have never been more confident that you are my person. You are home to me. Often times I don't feel worthy of your unconditional love but I am so thankful for it. I am so proud to be your wife. Here's to 100+ more.
