4th of july take 2...

Friday, June 26, 2015

posted last week about the perfect 4th of July outfit for the ladies that will be celebrating our country at the beach or in the backyard. Today's 4th of July outfit is for the ladies that will be inside sipping festive drinks. This is what I'd be wearing if I wanted to be slightly dressier for the 4th:

4th of july casual

I am loooving all of these brown heels! Each pair adds a different touch to this gorgeous, flattering dress. And the white nails have finally grown on me. I didn't used to be a fan, but now I think it looks chic and adds a feminine touch to any outfit! And of course you can't go wrong with gold accessories.

What will you be wearing on the 4th?

If my birthday was in the summer...

When I was younger I was always super jealous of my friends who could have their birthday parties at the pool. Now that I'm older, I'm still jealous but for other reasons. Since my birthday is in November and so close to Christmas, it's so hard to think of things that I "want" both for my bday and Xmas. And they always end up being winter-ish gifts, like sweaters and such. I always see so many things during the summer months that I lust over and wish my birthday was in June! So, IF my birthday was this summer, this is what I'd be hoping for:

half-birthday

Husband and I are dyyyying for a Yeti cooler. Even though it's super expensive, I feel like we would get great use out of it since we are at the beach almost every weekend during the summer. We are also dying for bikes! We love going on bike rides around our neighborhood at night but we always have to borrow my sister and brother-in-law's bikes.

As for the "girly" things I have been lusting over, Loren Hope anything. Especially those knock-out earrings! They would glam up any outfit! Dying for Jo Malone perfume. I hear such amazing things about it! And Tory Burch can do no wrong in my eyes ;)

When is your birthday? What's on your wish list?

Four on Friday

I have almost finished my first week in pediatrics and I'm pretty sure I have fallen in love with it. I knew I would either absolutely love or hate it. I adore children so I thought I would either love helping them feel better or have my heart broken every day seeing them sad and sick. Happy to report that it is on the top of my list for potential careers now!

My mom and I hosted a sip-and-see for my older sister and my nephew last night. It turned out amazing! We had about 50 friends and family over to meet Jack and munch on yummy food and drinks. Full recap coming next week!

Have I ever mentioned how much I adore my Kendra Scott necklace I got for Christmas? I literally have to stop myself from wearing it to work every.single.day. It adds the perfect amount of "fun" to my outfit while still looking professional. Also loving my new Anne Taylor Loft top. I swear my whole work wardrobe is from that store. Their clothes fit me perfectly! And it doesn't hurt that they are always having amazing deals like 40% off the entire store (!!!).

20 things you might not know about me

Thursday, June 25, 2015

One of my favorite bloggers, Jessica @ The Newly wrote a post a few weeks ago titled "20 Things You Might Now Know About Me" and I loved it! Personally, my favorite posts to read are posts that help me get to know my favorite bloggers more. It's so fun to learn more about blog friends so I figured I'd steal this idea and do one of my own! I hope you learn something new about me!

1. I have a tattoo on my hip that says "Believe". I got it on my 18th birthday. I was in a phase of dealing with my parents' divorce, dealing with a hard breakup, all the while believing that the Lord had the perfect plan for my life. It's hidden by my underwear/bathing suit bottoms but whenever I see it I am reminded to always Believe in His promises and goodness!

2. I have a German short-haired pointer. Yes, we have a bird dog and no, we do not hunt. My husband fell in love with the breed while I was in the corner pouting, "I do not want a dog with spots!". Needless to say, my husband won. She is my spoiled baby and I will have a GSP until the day I die! Best breed ever!

3. My hair is naturally super curly but I hate it. It takes forever to straighten, hence why I am always wearing it up or in a sock bun.

4. Champagne is my drink of choice. Prosecco to be exact.

5. My dad is an orthodontist. And I had braces 3 times because I never wore my retainers. Terrible daughter.

6. I was the captain of my 4A State Championship volleyball team in high school. We won the state championship my senior year, and it was my high school's first ever female team to win a championship.

7. I require a ton of sleep to function. Like, >9 hours. Which makes me absolutely terrified to have kids. I am going to be an unpleasant human being due to the lack of sleep.

8. I'm blind as a bat. Almost legally blind to be exact. When I take my contacts out I can't even text because I can't see my phone. My husband makes fun of me for holding objects 1 inch from my face to see them.

9. I haaaate raw tomatoes. They taste like metal to me and the texture… just no. It kills me because they look so yummy on a BLT in the summer but I just can't.

10. I have an older and a younger sister. People always think my older sister and I are twins, but she's 3 years older than me. My younger sister has red hair, and she's the only person in our entire family with red hair.

11. I LOVE to read. Give me a good mystery or love story and I will be content for hours.

12. My biggest fear is infertility. Silly, considering we haven't even tried to get pregnant yet. But so many people I love have suffered through it and it is my worst nightmare!

13. My day doesn't start until coffee. Husband says my "feet hit the floor and head straight to the coffee maker"… true story

14. I heart candles. All kinds, but especially the ones from Anthropologie

15. My niece and nephew are my life [which I'm sure you already knew if you even somewhat keep up with my blog]

16. My favorite house "chores" are laundry and vacuuming

17. I absolutely despise sweeping and unloading the dishwasher

18. Fresh flowers= happy heart. Pink peonies, yes please!

19. I have wanted to work in medicine my entire life. I would walk around at 5 years old saying I wanted to be a "doctor that delivered babies". Can't wait to finally be a PA in 6 short months!

20. I am a terrible cook. It's embarrassing. Luckily my husband is a great cook and loves doing it. Otherwise, we'd starve.

4th of July outfit + a giveaway!

Wednesday, June 24, 2015

The 4th of July is just over a week away. We spend it at the beach every year cooking out with friends and family. Nothing better than yummy food and drinks, celebrating our great country, and fireworks! My outfit may look something like this:

July 4th

I love stacking my gold Michael Kors watch with other gold bracelets. Also, if you haven't noticed, these Tory Burch sandals have been on repeat. So easy and comfortable.

What will you be wearing?

Father's Day

Monday, June 22, 2015

My dad… bike rider, marathon runner, orthodontist, dad of all girls
He is the hardest working person I know
He is the reason I am so tough on myself… Because he taught me that I can be anything I want to be with some hard work and dedication
He is the most selfless person, giving generously to others and those less fortunate
I thank him for my love of medicine and my Type A personality, my big blue eyes and my love of sports, my sweet tooth and my love of an early bedtime
Dad, thank you for pushing me and never letting me give up
For encouraging my success and being proud even when I fail
Always your little girl

Remember how we had family pictures taken last week? I don't have them back yet but she did send me this sneak peak and I'm loving it! Can't wait to see more in color. Love this man

I passed my geriatrics end-of-rotation exam! One step closer to graduation. Now onto pediatrics… I cannot wait!

We had a class cookout last night so I decided to whip up some homemade "salsa". Not exactly your normal salsa because it doesn't have any tomatoes in it, so I guess it's considered more of a bean-and-corn dip. Perfect for summer and so simple! All you need is:

-2 cans of black beans, drained and rinsed
-1 can of corn, drained
-1/2 green pepper
-1/2 red pepper
-1/2 purple onion
-1 bunch green onions
-1 tsp minced garlic
-1 tsp salt
-8 oz bottle Ken's Lite Olive Oil Vinaigrette

Mix together, chill, serve with chips.

I have been beating myself up over this whole blogging thing lately. You see, I don't like doing anything unless I'm doing it 110%, and I don't feel like I am giving that to my blog. Trying to juggle school and marriage and family and a semi-social life is hard. Nobody wants to hear me ramble on about studying congestive heart failure and which antibiotics are best to treat pneumonia. But this is what my life currently revolves around.

Luckily, my real-life turned blog friend Meghan has been encouraging me to keep it up. I am constantly texting her for blog help and advice! Thankfully, she has convinced me to just do my best on this blog, keeping in the back of my mind that I will have much more time to devote to it after graduation in December. I never want this blog to feel like a nuisance, so I will post when I can without stressing out when I can't.

Does anyone else swoon over Twine & Twig's necklaces? The other day I thought I'd reward myself with one of them until I saw the price tag. $230 for a necklace? WTF. I guess I will keep dreaming. If they were much cheaper this is the one I'd get:
